Detective Riddles with Answers - Part 2
Detective Riddle 1: The Poisoned Apple
Scenario: A serial killer invited a victim to dinner. He offered the victim an apple. The killer cut the apple into two halves with his knife. He ate one half, and the victim ate the other. The victim died immediately, but the killer survived.
Question: How is this possible?
Options:
- A) The killer is immune
- B) The apple was not poisoned
- C) The victim had a heart attack
- D) The poison was on the knife
Answer: D) The poison was on the knife
Explanation: The killer coated only one side of the knife blade with poison. When he cut the apple, only the half the victim ate touched the poison.
Detective Riddle 2: The "Blind" Beggar
Scenario: A politician was shot. Detective Mehul chased the shooter into an alleyway where a beggar was sitting. Mehul asked: "Did you see a man run past here?" The beggar replied: "I am blind, sir. I cannot see anything. But I heard him run that way." Mehul looked closely at the beggar and arrested him as an accomplice.
Question: Why?
Options:
- A) The beggar was wearing a watch
- B) The beggar was reading a newspaper
- C) The beggar described the runner without being asked
- D) Beggars don't sit in alleys
Answer: B) The beggar was reading a newspaper
Explanation: A blind person cannot read a standard newspaper. If he was holding or reading it, he was lying about being blind.
Detective Riddle 3: The Birthday Mistake
Scenario: A man claims his wife went missing on her birthday. Detective Mehul asks for the date of birth to file the report. The man says: "She was born on February 30th, 1990." Mehul immediately arrested the man for filing a false report.
Question: Why?
Options:
- A) 1990 is too long ago
- B) February 30th does not exist
- C) He forgot the year
- D) He didn't know her age
Answer: B) February 30th does not exist
Explanation: The month of February has only 28 or 29 days (in a leap year). There is never a February 30th on any calendar.
Detective Riddle 4: The Underwater Scream
Scenario: A diver died during a group expedition. The diving partner claimed it was an accident. Partner: "We were 50 feet underwater. Suddenly, he took his regulator out and screamed 'Help me!' clearly, so I tried to swim over, but it was too late." Mehul knew the partner was lying.
Question: Why?
Options:
- A) You cannot take a regulator out
- B) You cannot hear a clear scream underwater
- C) 50 feet is too shallow
- D) Divers don't swim
Answer: B) You cannot hear a clear scream underwater
Explanation: You cannot speak or scream clearly underwater because you cannot inhale air to make the sound without drowning, and water distorts sound. It is impossible to articulate "Help me" clearly at 50 feet deep.
Detective Riddle 5: The Morning Jog
Scenario: A woman was attacked in the park. She said the attacker ran East. Detective Mehul stopped a jogger running West. Mehul: "Where were you 10 minutes ago?" Jogger: "I was running this same path. I remember because the sun was directly in my eyes and blinding me!" It was 7:00 AM. Mehul arrested the jogger.
Question: Why?
Options:
- A) Nobody jogs at 7:00 AM
- B) The sun rises in the East
- C) The sun sets in the West
- D) It was cloudy
Answer: B) The sun rises in the East
Explanation: At 7:00 AM (morning), the sun is in the East. If the jogger was running West, the sun would be behind him, not in his eyes.
Detective Riddle 6: The Library Book
Scenario: A rare book was stolen from the library. The librarian suspected a student named Rahul. Rahul: "I didn't steal it! I was studying all day. I marked pages 15 and 16 with my bookmark to come back to them later." Mehul knew Rahul was lying about reading the book.
Question: Why?
Options:
- A) Bookmarks damage books
- B) Pages 15 and 16 are on the same sheet
- C) The book has no pictures
- D) Rahul can't read
Answer: B) Pages 15 and 16 are on the same sheet
Explanation: In a standard book, odd numbers are on the right and even numbers are on the left of the page. Therefore, page 15 and 16 are opposite sides of the exact same piece of paper. You cannot put a bookmark between them.
Detective Riddle 7: The Suicide Note
Scenario: A man is found dead in his office. He is slumped over his desk. A tape recorder is in his hand. Mehul presses play. He hears: "I can't go on anymore. I have lost everything." followed by the sound of a gunshot. Mehul immediately opens a murder investigation.
Question: Why?
Options:
- A) The voice was fake
- B) The gun was missing
- C) Dead men can't rewind tape recorders
- D) It was digital
Answer: C) Dead men can't rewind tape recorders
Explanation: If the man shot himself while recording, the tape would have continued running until the end. For Mehul to press play and hear the message immediately implies someone else stopped the recording and rewound it after the shot was fired.
