The Confusing Question

3.Detective Riddles

One day, Kushal and Mehul went for a day out. It was a long day, and they both were tired. None of them wanted to drive the car. Mehul challenges Kushal to solve a riddle. If Kushal could give the correct answer, Mehul offers to drive the car, if not, Kushal will have to drive the car.

Mehul then asks Kushal "Agents Yellow, Red and Green each have a green badge, a yellow badge and a red badge, but none of them has a badge color that matches their name.

They met when called to a conference at headquarters. The Agent with the Green badge said, "I have a license to kill! to which Agent Red replied sarcastically: What, time? What color is each Agent's badge?" Can you tell me the answer?

    • Note that it`s the agent with the Green badge and not Agent Green talking to Agent Red. As the agent with the green badge has spoken to Agent Red, we know that Agent Red doesn`t have a green badge. We already know he doesn`t have a red badge. Therefore he has a yellow badge. The agent with the green badge cannot be Agent Red, nor can he be Agent Green, therefore he is Agent Yellow. So Agent Yellow has a Green badge, and Agent Red has a yellow badge, meaning Agent Green must have a red badge.

He said, "If you can ask me a question about something you learned and I don't know the answer on the spot you will go free."

Mr. Jaikaal: Mr. Dhamka Singh not lying

Analyze the statements above and find out who did it.

  • Mr. Gogo
  • Mr.Jagga
  • Mr. Dhamka Singh
  • Mr. Jaikal:
    • Let us consider all the statements one by one for every person and find out.

      Case 1: Mr. Jagga did it, then

      Statement 1 => true

      Statement 2 => false (as Gogo did not do it)

      Statement 3 => false (as Mr. Jagga is lying)

      Statement 4 => false (as Mr. Dhamaka Singh is lying)

      It was Mr. Jagga who did it. But let us confirm by taking up other cases as well.

      Case 2: Mr. Gogodid it, then

      Statement 1 => false (as Mr. Jagga did not do it)

      Statement 2 => true

      Statement 3 => true (as Mr. Bilbo is not lying)

      Two statements are true whereas only one should be true, thus Mr. Reese did not do it.

      Case 3: Mr. Gerry did it, then

      Statement 1 => false (as Mr. Bilbo did not do it)

      Statement 2 => false (as Mr. Reese did not do it)
      Statement 3 => false (as Mr. Jagga is lying)

      Statement 4 => false (as Mr. Dhamaka Singh is lying)

      All four statements stand false, thus Mr. Gerry did not do it.

      Case 4: Mr. Yang did it, then

      Statement 1 => false (as Mr. Bilbo did not do it)

      Statement 2 => false (as Mr. Reese did not do it)

      Statement 3 => false (as Mr. Jagga is lying)

      Statement 4 => false (as Mr. Dhamka Singhis lying)

      All four statements are false therefore Mr. Jaikal did not do it.

      We have verified with everyone and now know that it was Mr. Jagga who did it.
